In conjunction with celebrating part of the National Research Foundation’s Singapore Week of Innovation & Technology (SWITCH), the Grand Finals of the inaugural edition of [email protected] was also held on the last day (20th September) of the event.
[email protected] 2017, powered by Startup SG, an initiative of SPRING Singapore and partnership with Channel NewsAsia, is a ”competitive” platform that let promising startups showcase their technology, business ideas, and gain early exposure to investors, corporates, industry leaders, mentors, media, and tech-savvy early adopters. The key objective of the competition is to identify the best startups that have The Next Big Idea which comprises of a passionate and commercially competent team with the potential ability to scale their business globally and has at least a working prototype based on proprietary/technology solutions.

LPixel Inc. (Japan) came in as one of the top 5 winners out of 900 applications from over 30 countries around the world with 30 finalists together with three other startups namely BLITAB Technology (Austria), Lucence Diagnostics (Singapore) and Smart Animal Husbandry Care or SmartAHC (Singapore). US-based Sophie’s Kitchen was the grand winner of the year 2017 which brought home the grand prize of S$200,000 Startup SG grant while the runners-up prize had S$100,000 Startup SG grants each. All winners were also provided with up to 12 months’ free workspace at JTC LaunchPads and additional funding from the judging panel of investors. On top of that, five startups will be selected to participate in Channel NewsAsia’s Start-UP TV program in Singapore.
At the same week on 22nd September 2017, iLPixel Global, a joint venture between iGroup (Asia Pacific) Ltd. and LPixel Inc releases ImaChek, a suite of image analysis solutions for promoting scientific integrity and detecting image misconduct. This solution comprises of ImaChek Pro where the system automates the process of detecting reutilized images upon tapping into advanced image analysis algorithms while ImaChek Premium, an on-demand service, focuses on helping clients in-depth investigation of reutilized or manipulated images in life sciences research publications. It also enables publishers to upload their proprietary content to be safely stored in the cloud. ImaChek for Publishers will be available in 2018.
