Librarylearningspace is an iGroup (Asia Pacific) website and the digital home of ACCESS: Asia’s Newspaper on Electronic Information Products & Services, which has since transitioned from print to an online format.
The first issue of ACCESS was published in 1992 in Singapore by Knowledge Share International, for the companies that later formed the iGroup. Its purpose was to highlight emerging databases and storage technologies that libraries across Asia could adopt for their students and faculty.
Over the years, ACCESS reported quarterly on electronic publishing trends, conference updates, and library innovations across the region. From CD-ROMs to networked databases, and from hard disks to internet delivery — ACCESS covered it all. Each issue was mailed free of charge to over 3,000 recipients across Asia Pacific, with costs partially offset by advertising. In total, 83 print issues were published before the transition to digital; some of these can still be found in the ACCESS archives on Aardvark.
The final print edition, released in December 2012, was succeeded by [email protected]. Overnight, its readership grew from 3,000 postal addresses to 61,000 email subscribers. Today, the website and eNewsletter provide wider coverage — including topics such as copyright, online learning, data curation, digitization, publishing, and technology news — along with updates from libraries across the Asia-Pacific region.
You can register on the Librarylearningspace home page to receive the free, twice-monthly ACCESS eNewsletter directly in your inbox.
