SAE Receives New Journal Impact Factors from ISI
By SAE International
Introduction
In June 2025, Clarivate Analytics’ Institute of Scientific Information (ISI) unveiled its yearly rankings of 2024 journal impact factors.
Among the recipients, SAE International® received Journal Impact Factors (JIFs) for ten of its publications, including the SAE Journal of Connected and Automated Vehicles, which earned its inaugural JIF this year.
What are JIFs?
Clarivate calculates JIFs using a formula that compares the number of times a journal’s articles are cited in a given year to the total number of citable works it published over the prior two years.
The ISI employs a selective, quality-focused approach to assign impact factors. A panel of experts assesses each journal’s content and analyzes citation data from the Web of Science database. Researchers and librarians worldwide rely on ISI impact factors when choosing which journals to subscribe to or where to submit their work.
Given the highly competitive academic publishing landscape, achieving a JIF ranking is a notable accomplishment. Any journal that secures an impact factor is regarded as a credible and influential voice in its discipline.

Why It Matters
With the increasing prevalence of predatory publishing and questionable research practices, reliable metrics like JIFs have become essential for evaluating journal credibility. These impact factors track how frequently a journal’s articles are referenced in scholarly literature, reinforcing the reputation of SAE’s journals, contributing authors, and editorial teams.
Kim Martin, SAE’s Editorial Director of Journals and Technical Papers, emphasizes that high-caliber research is the foundation for earning a JIF.
“Authors acknowledge the relevance of our journals to their own work. The fact that the majority of our publications carry impact factors enhances our standing in the research community. Readers can trust that we uphold the highest standards in scholarly content,” Martin explained.
