A boost of $540 million in research and development funding for the digital technologies and automation was announced at the 11th Research, Innovation and Enterprise Council on 26 March 2019. This funding would aid in the creation of artificial intelligence (AI) systems to identify patients predisposed to chronic diseases like diabetes, robots to perform menial tasks and wearable sensors to provide early intervention for heart failure.
With the $540 million top-ups, the $19 billion funds will now see a total of $900 million allocated to research and development (R&D) in fields like AI, robotics, and supercomputers.
